MADBIKE 4th edition

  • MAD Brussels

The theme of mobility is a key issue in our towns and is an area being researched by companies both at the design and production technique levels. The market is flourishing too. MAD BIKE dreams up an innovative event in this sector that could well represent and bring together designers, stylists, producers, builders, preparers, aficionadoes and curious people.

MAD BIKE is proposing an event that brings people together as well as being professional and trendy. It is based on urban mobility, showing off ‘bicycle culture' via bike exhibitions, bike demonstrations, professional get-togethers/round tables, professional bike and accessory exhibitors. Discover their full program here: http://www.madbrussels.be/en/Agenda/MAD-BIKE-152

RETHINK the modular

  • Salone dei Tessuti

The exploration of "Rethink the modularUSM concept began with a workshop at the domain de Boisbuchet in September 2014 with "USM Masterclasses" from seven leading international design schools. Workshop results were presented at this year Milan Furniture Fair, in an event that presented a comprehensive and kaleidoscopic interpretation of modularity today.

The ENSCI - Les Ateliers Masterclass, lectured by Thomas Lommée, worked on a series of modular objects, based on the OS grid, in which each object is sharing one or multiple parts together / between each other.
Watch all workshop results here.

Glass Forms Enhance Rituals Surrounding Wine

As part of Brussels Design September, the fruits of a glass blowing workshop at theMeisenthal International Glass Art Centre (CIAV) in the French national parkNorthern Vosges, were on display at Bozar.

In collaboration with winemakers from the region, 13 students from ENSAV La Cambre and HBK Saarbrücken produced vessels that explored the habits and rituals that surround wine drinking. The resulting objects are unusual variations of the standard carafe. They use new forms and additions like handles which – at the very least – serve to visually enhance the ritual of drinking wine.

The students utilized traditional glass making moulds to create the new forms, giving new life to time-worn tools. The Meisenthal Glass Centre encourages conservation and promotion of traditional glass blowing techniques through collaboration with contemporary artists.

  • MUDAM

The point of departure of Next Cabane is a simple, foldable hut-like structure made of wooden slats, from a flea market in the north of Scotland, which, it seems, was originally covered with a tarpaulin and used as a shelter for anglers. The designers at Fabrica have subjected this mobile room to different interpretations. The six projects shown at Mudam have used it respectively as a temporary means of delimitation, as a symbolic protective space, as a place of work or play, or as an exhibition venue. As an enclosed space, it enables a more conscious perception of place and its characteristics; it is an experimental space in which design methods can be used to examine and interrogate materials, forms and structures.

The Mobile Museum, by Philip Bone (*1984) and Dean Brown (*1985), is a mobile museum whose collection changes its theme depending on where it is exhibited. It is made up of corresponding objects from a large variety of sources.

Soft Fold by Marie Dessant and Margaux Keller is a temporary space which invites the users to take time out of their day. Duvets, a reading table, a low bench and a lamp compose this hybrid furniture/space. The harmony of colors emphasizes this soft and quiet atmosphere.

Kasbah @ INTERIEUR

  • kortrijk xpo

INTERIEUR may not be the largest of fairs (although running for ten days it could be the longest), but what sets it apart from other events internationally is, as the INTERIEUR Foundation's president José Carlier puts it, 'the realisation that it must be exceptionally creative, selective and quality conscious in order to compete'. And discerning it is. The event's 250 international exhibitors represent some of the industry's most respected design brands, with a significant Belgian contingent.
